The bitter cold temperatures and all the salt and snow that come with winter can really do a number on your Kia which is why it is important to perform some spring maintenance so it runs in tip-top shape, ready for new adventures! Keep reading to learn about the spring maintenance tips we have and how we can do the work for you!
Maintenance to Perform
Changing the Oil and Oil Filter — Up first, is changing out your Kia’s old oil for some fresh stuff! The oil in your Kia’s engine is vital to proper function. When the oil ages, it takes on sludge and debris impacting the performance of the engine, reducing fuel economy, and can even cause engine damage.
Check the Fluids — There are a few other fluids that need to be checked on. They include coolant, windshield wiper fluid, transmission fluid, brake, and power steering. If any of the fluids levels are low, top them off or flush and replace them as needed. It’s important to keep in mind that your coolant, brake and power steering systems are close so if the fluid levels are low, that could indicate a leak.
Replace Your Wiper Blades — During the winter months we use our wiper blades quite a lot, pushing back wet snow and kickback from other vehicles and they can be in pretty rough shape by the time the season is over. If you notice any cracks or tears in your blades, swap them out so you can ensure visibility in the spring showers to come.
Check Your Tires — Your Kia’s tires are the one point of contact between you and the road and it’s important they are in tip-top shape. Start by checking the pressure of all your tires, including your spare to make sure they are properly inflated, if needed top them off. Now is the time to check your tire’s tread as well. You can use the penny trick to see how much wear your tires can take. If you are in need of a new set, we can handle that for you!
